Founded by Nigel & Anita Davis, Pied A Terre designed and sold premium fashion footwear through its own High Street stores to fashion conscious, affluent women. When Piper bought out early backers and injected growth capital in 1989, Pied A Terre operated from 9 stores with a small, relatively under-developed management team.

Piper’s investment enabled the business to broaden the product range and widen the brand’s appeal, to expand in the UK – growing from 9 to 20 stores – to invest in brand marketing and to commence international growth.

In 1996 the business was acquired by the USA’s largest shoe retailer, Nine West.
